Frequently Asked Questions

Will the crystals damage the teeth?

No, everything used in the application is completely safe and has been used by dentists for over 25 years.

Can the crystals be applied to a crown, denture or cap?

Unlike a natural tooth, crowns, dentures and caps are very smooth and shiny when examined under a microscope.  Therefore, the adhesive finds it difficult to stay attached to these types of teeth.  Under the circumstances it is better to choose a natural tooth for the crystal.  Alternatively, we can offer ‘Sparkles’ Tooth Jewellery system which is suitable for these types of teeth.

What happens if you swallow the Crystal?

Absolutely nothing.  The crystal will pass through the body in the usual process.

Can you guarantee the length of time the Crystal will stay on the tooth?

Unfortunately, no.  The length of time a crystal remains on the tooth is due to a number of factors.  The acidity level of the mouth, client lifestyle i.e. what they eat or drink and following aftercare advise.  These factors all play a part in the life of a crystal, however, they are temporary but this means you can come back and get another and perhaps in a different colour.

Will it leave a mark after it comes off?

No.  It may leave a small amount of adhesive which can be simply and safely removed in the same way as you would remove a crystal, in a downward motion AWAY from the gum line.

What if I decide I want to remove it?

The crystal can be safely removed at anytime.  However, when a crystal is freshly applied the bond is at its strongest and it may be harder for you to remove.  In all cases the following procedure MUST be used.  Prise off the crystal with dental floss or your finger in a DOWNWARD motion AWAY from the gum line.  Gum tissue is very soft and the crystal could become embedded into the gum tissue when forced in an upward direction toward the gum line.

Can a crystal be applied to someone aged under 16?

Yes, but only with parental /guardian consent.

What should I do if the crystal has come off but left some backing on the tooth?

Unfortunately due to the way the crystals are treated and manufactured this will occasionally happen.  Remove the backing and adhesive in the exact same way as you would a crystal.
